County shading shows the four Yorkshire ceremonial counties. Pins are your own logged sightings. When a species is selected, the app also tries to load live occurrence data from the NBN Atlas — if your browser can't reach it, use the "View on NBN Atlas" link instead.
Ask Claude
Tell Claude about a sighting, or ask a question like “what deer haven't I seen yet, and where can I go to see them?” Claude keeps this tracker's checklist and sightings data up to date in the background — updates just show up next time you load this page, no importing needed.
The link opens Claude — pick the “Yorkshire Wildlife” project if it isn't already open. “Copy status” copies what you have and haven't seen plus your recent sightings, so pasting it into the chat gives Claude full context right away.
Your sightings file
Sightings are kept in your browser as you log them. To make them permanent (and visible on the live GitHub Pages site for anyone, or on another device), export the file and commit it to data/sightings.json in your repository, then push.

The 468-species starting checklist covers Yorkshire mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, compiled from the Avibase Yorkshire & the Humber checklist, the Yorkshire Naturalists' Union, the Yorkshire Mammal Group and the British Herpetological Society. It's a best-effort comprehensive list, not an official record — correct anything you spot as wrong directly in data/species.json.
